South Africa ’13, Part 3: Table Mountain

On our last day in Cape Town we hiked up Table Mountain via Skeleton Gorge hiking trail starting in the Kirstenborsch Botanical Garden, which is a more interesting trail compared to the shorter one starting in the Table Mountain Park J once did.

Received some “tribal make-up” from the waitress after breakfast in the Botanical Garden.

She said this was a wedding custom in the African tribes

The trail was actually even steeper than it looked on this picture.

Herzogstand Heimgarten hiking

Hiking up Heimgarten and then going across the ridge to Herzogstand is one of the most spectacular hikes we have done so far. It’s pretty strenuous and takes almost 5 hours – but absolutely worth the effort!

In the upper left corner you can see Herzogstand, a small hut that had been built by King Ludwig II because of the great view across Walchen- and Kochelsee

Some parts of the ridge are steep and you better be careful

Wallberg Tegernsee in summer time

This time we are hiking up Wallberg that greatly overlooks Tegernsee, approx. 900hm uphill. The trail is fairly easy to walk, but after the workout you surely will enjoy teh “Weizenbier” in the restaurant on the top.

Hirschberg / Tegernsee

Hiking up Hirschberg near Tegernsee – a classical tour in the Alps near Munich. Not too exciting though. The first ascend is nevertheless a pretty tough exercise!
